About the Yacht
Beautiful Vintage 46’ Cheoy Lee Trawler
SHANGRI LA has the distinction of being the smallest double-deck production yacht ever built. One can live the dream on this vintage beauty. She is well configured for weekend cruising and long passage-making voyages.
She has traveled all of the east coastal waters, the Erie Canal, circumnavigated the Great Lakes, and the inland waterways of the Mississippi/Ohio rivers to Southwest Florida and the Florida Keys.
Accommodations are comfortable and efficient. The chef's galley highlighted many a memorable voyage. Deck space is optimized for flexibility, supporting offshore excursions, kayaking and wilderness exploration, and operations that demand space for gear and personnel.
Shangri La has voyaged in freshwater and kept in indoor heated off-season storage for most of her lifespan.
Accessories and equipment includes AC, Starlink, new settee, new canvas aft deck enclosure with AC, exotic wood finishes, new victron inverter and batteries, and diesel generator for reliable power at anchor or underway. Reliable twin 120 Ford Lehman marine diesels yield a cruising speed of 7.5 - 8.0 knots at just over 4 gallons per hour at 1750 RPM, giving "Shangri La" a cruising range of over 1,500 nautical miles.
The engines have approximately 3,500 hours. She is constructed on a solid fiberglass displacement hull with a keel deep enough to protect the running gear in the event of a grounding. The hull is a solid, hand laid-up GRP molding, and sandwich construction is used for the decks and superstructure. All scantlings excel Lloyd’s requirements.
Shangri La was commissioned in 1978 and cruised only during the summer months with the original owner in Maine. In 1998 she was purchased in Camden, Maine and sailed to Bay City, Michigan where she was berthed for 10 years. In 2008 she was moved to Traverse City, Michigan. She circumnavigated all of the Great Lakes with many summers in Georgian Bay and the North Channel. During her 26 years in Michigan freshwaters, she wintered in heated and covered storage, allowing her to receive annual maintenance and cosmetic work, deck work and substantial upgrades.
In 2018 she journeyed south via the western part of the Great Loop, arriving in southwest Florida in 2019. She cruised southwest Florida and the Keys in the last few winters. In the last 5 years in Florida, she was protected in covered storage in the off-season. She has been well maintained and cared for with prime attention given to safety and structural integrity.

Welaka is an historic river community with Old Florida charm along the scenic St. Johns River. It lies in the midst of the Welaka and Ocala National Forest, flanking two state parks with over 387,000 acres.
It is small town living at its finest with friendly people and an inviting atmosphere; an alternative to congested coastal living yet in close proximity to Central Florida’s attractions.
Amenities include great local restaurants, boat rentals, charters, bait and tackle, repairs and other services, including a boat ramp.
Recreational opportunities are available on many nearby bodies of water: St. Johns River, Dunn’s Creek, Crescent Lake, Ocklawaha River, Little Lake George, Lake George and Lake Kerr.
The River: The St. Johns River is only one of few rivers on earth that flows north. It is fed by several crystal-clear freshwater springs, meandering 310 miles through the state and national forests into the Atlantic Ocean. Life is defined by the river.
Blue Springs is one of the best winter manatee habitats in the state. Fishing and boating opportunities abound along beautiful inland waterways, and the freshwater fishing is second to none.
It is often referred to as the "Bass Fishing Capital of the World". Large and small lakes also dot the landscape.
Take the river north to Palatka or Jacksonville and to the mouth of the Atlantic Ocean. Head south to Lake George, Silver Glen Springs, Hontoon Island State Park and Blue Springs. Marinas, restaurants and lodging are found in both directions.
Fishing: Amateur and professional fishermen enjoy the black bass fishing from Lake George to Dunn’s Creek and beyond. Other species of fish include speckled perch and varieties of pan fish that can be caught year-round.
Several fishing tournaments take place throughout the year, drawing participation from local anglers and pros.
